By Plane

As you arrive at Saint-Petersburg by plane, you basically cannot get lost. Saint-Petersburg has just one airport Pulkovo Airport (code: LED) with one terminal. There are many international flights. There are direct flights from Prague, Helsinki, Moskow. The flights from the United States usually have a transfer in Western Europe.

You may consider a flight to Moskow (Domodedovo - DME, Sheremetyevo -SVO, Vnukovo - VKO) or Helsinki (Vantaa - HEL) and come by train to Saint-Petersburg.

By Train (from Moscow)

The Sapsan, a high-speed train comes from Moscow to Saint-Petersburg a few times a day. The duration is 4 hours. There will be a group of participants coming that way. You may join them.

By Train (from Helsinki)

The Allegro, a high-speed train comes from Helsinki to Saint-Petersburg a few times a day. The duration is 4 hours. There will be a group of participants coming that way. You may join them.

June is the peak month for White Nights - a unique phenomenon that Saint Petersburg is famous for. The sun never quite sets, and the dusk continues on through the whole night, till dawn. The days are mostly pleasant and not hot at all. The average day temperature in June is about +20°C (+68°F). On calm days you can go out wearing shorts, but beware of the rain and wind - just in case, carry a jacket.

Saint Petersburg is the second largest city in Russia. It is the northernmost city in the world with a population of over one million. It is located on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. St Petersburg is often described as the most westernized city of Russia, as well as its cultural capital. There are English signs everywhere. Most staff speak English and all of the services will be more English-friendly due to FIFA world cup.

The Symposium will take place at the heart of Saint-Petersburg, near Kazan Cathedral, the cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church (read on Wikipedia). The picture of the cathedral could be found on the main page and on the conference posters.

Herzen University Hotel is situated behind Kazan Cathedral, Kazanskaya Street, 6. The prices of the hotels nearby start from $100 per night at this season. More reasonable prices could be found out of the center.

Herzen University is situated directly right to Kazan Cathedral.

Saint-Petersburg Department of V.A.Steklov Institute of Mathematics is situated in three bus or trolleybus stops from Kazan Cathedral.
